And yet some more Penguin love

Pardon me, dear reader, for another Penguin post. When I saw that the English Penguin Library came out with new covers, I just had to get a few!

I often think how Penguin is able to come up with such simple yet elegant book covers. And they're giving me another reason not to switch to ebook readers. These books are just too beautiful on the shelf.

The set of 100 titles will be complete by the end of this year, with a few titles being available each month. I already ticked off the titles that I will be getting.

And I'm so happy that Penguin made these books quite affordable. In local bookstores, they're around $7 each. We know what this means—my shelves will be filled with Penguins!

YAY Peter, for continuing the book buying rather than going down the ebook trail. Here's a thing though - if Penguin can keep putting out affordable, well made books, why can't the other publishers???

Good stuff, that Master Poe. He is the first of the "classical" authors I remember embracing in elementary school (around age 9-10). Of course, the subject matter was a long way from Dickens or Bronte, but he was the guy that taught me that horror could stand the test of time, and I owe him a lot. Good choices, amigo!

Hi, Kaz! Good question! I've always been curious how publishers put a price tag on some titles.

Hello, Jack! That would be my first Poe read. So excited to finally get to read him.

I can't believe it! They are planning to release one hundred books?! God, they just released some deluxe edition and now they are running new editions again. Wow!

I saw copies of those edition from Fullybooked and few from NBS, I hope I could full my bag with those edition. Good luck Peter and be careful, I hope Sweet Reads won't steal those books from you.

I wish Penguin will release this edition of Vanity Fair. :)

I like Penguins because of their cover designs and affordable prices. So cute I want to gobble them in one setting, hehe

Hey, Peter! Sorry to stray from topic, but Angelya at The Oaken Bookcase just posted about this, and I want to make sure my book-specific friends know about it. Take a look at www.armchairbea.com, and if it grabs you, jump in. My material roams a little far afield to get much out of this, but it might be right up your alley!
Enjoy,
- Jack

Hi there, These editions are beautiful! But I am wondering, how is the paper quality? Is it better than the standard Pengin's? And do the spines crease like the regular editions?

I hope they become available in the US!

The paper quality is good, Lora. And I do think that these are available in the US as well. Yes, the spines do crease like the regular editions.
