Recent book loot

I know that I haven't been buying books lately, so my recent splurge on book buying was just so satisfying. I bought new hardbacks like there was no tomorrow. The feeling of buying a load of books is just so incomparable.

Here's what I bought:

  • Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel - I make it a point to read the Booker winner every year.
  • The City and the City by China Mieville - It's supposed to be a fusion of the fantasy and the detective genre.
  • The Lost City of Z by David Grann - I have always been fascinated by the Amazon.
  • Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl - I haven't read young adult fiction for a long time and this sounds like the perfect read. I've been hearing a lot of good things about it.
And I also bought a few paperbacks which I've always wanted to have.

As you can see, I've a taste for sensational and gothic fiction lately, that's why I bought Daphne Du Maurier's Jamaica Inn, Dianne Setterfield's The Thirteenth Tale, Lewis's The Monk, and Ellen Wood's East Lynne, which is said to be the "grandmother" of sensational novels. (Oh, I forgot: I didn't actually buy East Lynne. A good friend gave it to me.)

So now that I got my retail therapy fix, it's now time for some serious reading!

What a wonderful bookish haul that is! Wolf Hall is wonderful cant wait for your thoughts on that. The City and The City intrigues me though I havent quite had the final urge to read it, maybe your review will push me. I soooooo want to read The Lost City of Z!

In the paperbacks - hoorah and double hoorah! East Lynne and Jamacia Inn are two of my favs! Cannot wait to hear your thoughts on them and The Monk which I am keen to try.

Wonderful loot! Wolf Hall, City and The City, and The Lost City of Z seem like books I'd go for as well.

I have the Thirteenth Tale in my TBR. Hmmmm...I think I'll go into the synopsis of each of your books and see if I should add them to my wishlist. I usually like the books you share with us in this blog. :)

It's not even 2010 and I'm piling up my wishes like crazy!

I've been wanting to read The Lost City of Z. I added it to my TBR list awhile ago, but I keep forgetting to see if it's in at the library.

Happy reading!

Hi, Ruby! No, I wasn't able to go to the FFP's Christmas party, since it was also our company party.

I got Wolf Hall (Php 1,100) and Beautiful Creatures (Php 700) from Powerbooks!

I understand exactly how you feel since I went on a book splurge too, only I got 4 books for a dollar from the library(!!!) and borrowed innumerable ones. My book bag was bursting, my arms were full of books, and my heart was bursting with happiness. Ahhh.

Every time I go on a book buying ban, I regret it, because when I go off it, I go a little crazy! :) I can't wait for your review of Beautiful Creatures-I've heard good things about it.

Great books there. I'm trying to curb my book buying for the rest of the month but it's a little hard to keep the dampers on. I liked The Thirteenth Tale when it came out buy wasn't blown away by it.

Hey Peter - left you note on an old post. Not sure you read it. Where'd you get the Little Stranger by Sarah Waters? Can't find it anywhere.

Hi, Mrs. B. I got it from Fully Booked. It's a hardback. Check out their shelves which are labeled "large format."
