A hundred postcards and a couple of mugs

During a recent trip out of the country, all I had in mind was to get the Penguin mugs I spotted on the Facebook page of BooksActually. But since I arrived a day early for the business appointments, I decided to check out Kinokuniya again.

When I saw a boxed set of 100 postcards showing vintage Penguin covers, I just knew I had to get it. I love all things Penguin, so it's a no-brainer that I ended up emptying my wallet. But it was so worth it! This set is so beautiful. Even the packaging was awesome!

The set even has some of the classic works that I love. I just love the solid colors and the sans serif typefaces. For these designs, less is indeed more.

I selected a few of these cover designs that I love. Here are my favorites.

And finally, I did manage to find the time to get my big ass to Tiong Bahru where BooksActually is. Now, every time I'll be drinking coffee, there'll be something book-ish in the experience.

Next time, I'll try to get more Penguin stuff. Who doesn't love that adorable avian creature who has graced the spines of many of our beloved books?

Hello, Kaz! I think you can order them online.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if you had some of those book editions in your collection?

Since you love Penguin, if you ever get to London's Covent Garden, make a trip to Puffin bookstore (Penguin's children's line). When I was first taken there as a child, I thought I was in heaven. It's a tiny little place where adults have to bend their heads so as to get into all the little alcoves where children can huddle with their chosen books! I hope it's still open and as charming as ever. One day I'd love to go back there.

Love this post, Peter! I'm a big fan of postcards. :P I have the Puffin and Ladybird sets and I'm trying to decide if I should get the Pixar one. I've gotten a couple of postcards from a book blogger friend in the US who has the Penguin set. Also, what a coincidence! I just got back from Hong Kong and I bought a Pride and Prejudice Penguin mug from a bookstore there. I wanted the passport holder but they only had one design for that (The Road, I think?) Does BookActually have those passport holders?

Hi, Chachic! I bought these postcards at Kinokuniya. They also have the passport holders, the keychains, and the journals.

The only ones that I got from BooksActually were these mugs. I should've gotten a blue one too, now that I think about it.

Thanks for the info, Peter! I have a feeling I'll end up buying the passport holder the next time I see it, even if I haven't read either The Road or The Lost Girl. LOL and will probably get a couple of books from Kinokuniya as well because they have nice selections there diba? Kind of like Fully Booked.

You're welcome, Chachic! Yes, you're right about Kinokuniya's selections. I love it there! They have different editions of books, but some of their titles are pricier than those from our local bookstores. Some are even 150% more expensive.

I love Penguin too! They have some of the best book covers: simple, yet very creative at the same time. BTW, how much did the postcards cost? :D

Hello, Visual Velocity! I bought the postcards in Singapore. I believe they cost around 2,500 pesos.
